Blackhawk Network is seeking a Staff Network Engineer.

This is a key position, with various responsibilities to enable you to learn and hone your skills and become the best you can be, while delivering superior network support services for our global network.


The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager of Networking and will be a member of a multi-disciplined dispersed team with responsibility to service, support and maintain Blackhawk’s vast inventory and service operations of switches, firewalls, routers, load balancers, VoIP, wireless and ISP systems.

  • Maintain network infrastructure across mission-critical operational environments in multiple offices and data centers
  • Create and update networking documentation and diagrams
  • Make changes to infrastructure in accordance with change control procedures
  • Regularly check monitoring tools to identify potential issues
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Learn new technologies to ensure the ability to support the latest best-in-class solutions
  • Implement and maintain equipment from a large list of vendors, including Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, F5 and Ruckus
  • Work on a variety of networking areas, such as LAN, WAN, routing, switching, ACLs, policies, VLAN, NAT, IPSec, authentication systems
  • Troubleshoot WAN network connectivity issues with circuit providers
  • Provide regular feedback to management on task status
  • Identify and implement ways to improve network performance and availability
  • Work in a methodical manner, promoting high quality, by thoroughly planning out work before implementation
  • Work as part of one large team, spread across different physical locations and time zones
  • Work with a security first approach
  • Perform software updates, install patches to infrastructure devices
  • Provide other departments with networking assistance as required


  • Strong desire and ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communicator, comfortable with speaking with audiences with varying network skillsets
  • Demonstrated strong customer service orientation.
  • Highly proficient at troubleshooting complex issues in medium and enterprise scale networks
  • Experience with multiple different vendor technologies, especially Cisco and Palo Alto
  • Experience with troubleshooting and implementing BIG-IP F5 load balancing products
  • Working knowledge of other aspects of IT, such as operating systems, virtualization and cloud services such as Amazon Web Services
  • Team player, always willing to help others
  • Familiar with authentication systems utilizing Active Directory, RADIUS, 802.1x
  • Considerable experience with troubleshooting and monitoring tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds and PRTG
  • Knowledge of PCI and SOX compliance requirements and ramifications
  • Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
  • Understanding of MPLS
  • Understanding of VoIP systems
  • In depth knowledge of how TCP, UDP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols operate
  • Considerable experience with basic networking items, such as DHCP, DNS, VLAN tagging
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate complex issues in a clear straightforward manner


Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • 7 or more years of professional IT experience required
  • 5 or more years of experience in networking, working with enterprise class routers, switches, load-balancers and firewalls
  • Cisco CCNA (or equivalent level) certification required
