Overview:

The Sr. Manager, Systems Administration supports Blackhawk’s production application platforms, network backbone and guides the team through technical challenges and opportunities. Additionally, this position requires solid project planning skills and strategic foresight with regard to Linux/UNIX technologies. The Sr. Manager, Systems Administration develops the Linux System Administration strategic vision and Linux system roadmap, the Windows vision and roadmap, as well as contributing to the overall strategic vision of Infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple systems administration teams in multiple locations
  • Serve as escalation point for all production outages by providing advanced technical knowledge support as well as managerial guidance
  • Contribute significantly to development of Service Level Agreements, incorporating input from other functional leaders
  • Provide technical oversight to other departments, both inside and outside of Technology, shaping architecture design per project requirements, managing resource constraints, and consulting on system capabilities
  • Coordinate with other Technology teams during system outages, critical projects, or other time-sensitive tasks
  • Diagnose system resource constraints; recommend configuration changes to overcome constraints
  • Collaborate with other departments on large scale projects; provide recommendations based on industry best-practices and team standards, keeping long-term stability and budget in mind
  • Develop tactical and strategic goals aligned to overall department and corporate direction
  • Maintain hardware-level stability and availability, including all break/fix issues, hardware replacement, vendor relations, hardware modifications, and hardware/server configurations
  • Schedule, communicate and manage change control in an enterprise supporting multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Attend team, management, and project meetings contributing knowledge and leadership within area of responsibility
  • Research new technologies and best practices and develop recommendations to senior management for consideration

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical field or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to interpret complex project requirements into usable system solutions
  • Expertise in at least one of the following three areas and significant experience in the remaining areas:
    • Enterprise storage architecture design and operations (EMC experience desired)
    • UNIX operating systems in a production environment, experience with two or more operating systems required (Redhat and Solaris required)
    • Windows operating system
  • Experience with sales or contract negotiations; experience with budget planning and controls
  • 7+ years of experience leading teams that support UNIX operating systems in a production environment; experience managing remote employees a plus
  • Extensive experience managing small- to mid-sized technology projects
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels, including direct customers (internal and external), management, and co-workers
  • Solid understanding of network design principles
  • Cross-functional experience with other non-UNIX technologies is highly desirable.
