Overview:

The Staff Systems Engineer position within the Implementation and Onboarding team is responsible for specification consultation, configuration, and testing of Blackhawk Network payment processing services for internal customers and external Blackhawk Network partners. This includes but not limited to: interaction with internal and external clients to support specification integration, troubleshooting and resolving integration issues, and working directly with other integration engineers, systems engineers, project / implementation managers, and QA engineers as required by the project requirements. Location: Pleasanton, CA. Will  consider remote for the right person.

Responsibilities:

Platform Architecture & Automation Leadership 

  • Own the complete Atlassian platform including Jira Software, Confluence, and related products—configuring, securing, and maintaining enterprise-scale deployments while driving BHN toward an automation-first approach to work management 
  • Leverage the Atlassian automation platform to enhance and improve work and platform maintenance. 
  • Develop complex JQL queries, custom scripts, and leverage API endpoints to streamline the business and solve problems 
  • Design and maintain automation orchestration for corporate services, particularly employee lifecycle management; serve as an automation subject matter expert, mentoring teammates on automated task development and champion best practices  
  • Evaluate and implement new Atlassian products and third-party integrations aligned with business objectives 

Infrastructure Management & Strategic Initiatives 

  • Co-manage our enterprise identity provider (IDP) solution and SaaS service portfolio, maintaining, securing, and auditing corporate services while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements 
  • Administer Okta workflows and integrations, leveraging APIs for automated user management and collaborating on access control policies and single sign-on implementations 
  • Participate in BCP for corporate services, including backup strategies, redundancy planning, disaster recovery processes, and comprehensive infrastructure documentation 
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts including ISO and SOC audits, ensuring systems meet security and operational standards while participating in vendor management for critical corporate services 
  • Drive technology consolidation efforts across the organization, particularly following acquisitions, and participate in architectural decisions for both on-premises and SaaS-based corporate information systems 
  • Provide escalated technical support for complex end-user issues requiring systems-level expertise and travel to satellite offices (5-10% of time) to support distributed infrastructure needs

Qualifications:

What You Bring 

Required Experience: 

  • 8+ years as a Systems Engineer or 10+ years as a Systems Administrator with extensive Atlassian customization experience 
  • Minimum 4 years administering Atlassian products in large enterprise environments, with deep expertise in Jira Software project customization and automation 
  • 2-4 years of Okta administration experience with proven success creating automation using APIs and Okta Workflows 
  • Advanced proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Groovy, Bash) and API integration using tools like Postman 
  • Demonstrated success designing and implementing automation solutions across multiple platforms 

Technical Competencies: 

  • Expert-level knowledge of Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.) including advanced JQL, automation rules, and custom field configuration 
  • Strong API development and integration experience with RESTful services 
  • Proficiency with identity management platforms, particularly Okta 
  • Experience with additional enterprise tools: ServiceNow, Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, Intune, PowerShell

  • Meticulous attention to detail with ability to create clear, comprehensive documentation and administrative guides 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience) 
  • Professional certifications in Atlassian, Okta, or Microsoft technologies 
  • Experience in regulated industries (financial services, fintech) 
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ISO, SOC, PCI-DSS) 

Benefits:

Salary Range for California Residents Only: $115,800.00 to $156,340.00
