Overview:

The Sr. Director, Risk Management reports to the Vice President of Risk Management and serves as a key driver of Blackhawk Network's continued growth and global expansion. We're seeking a visionary leader to centralize our Risk function and build a proactive, robust, best-practices operation focused on payments and fraud risk. This leader will be entrusted with a comprehensive portfolio of risk management responsibilities, including risk governance, fraud payments risk, cyber risk, investigations, and operational risk.

 

The Sr. Director will develop operational frameworks to support fraud and payment risk strategies, policies, and programs that enhance risk management while preventing and mitigating losses. This role will drive a differentiated approach to risk management using data, machine learning, AI, and other decision science technologies to prevent and mitigate fraud payment losses while ensuring customer experiences remain seamless. The Sr. Director of Risk Management will collaborate with technology, product, and customer service teams to ensure the integrity of our payments ecosystem by preventing and mitigating fraud losses, overseeing fraud investigations, and preventing the misuse of payment systems for unlawful or abusive purposes while protecting against overall financial loss. Developing and managing a world-class team will also be a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and evaluate comprehensive policies, processes, and standards to reduce risk, ensure business continuity, and facilitate disaster recovery.
  • Design and implement a holistic operational strategy to manage company-wide risk from both operational and enterprise perspectives, creating operational strategies and reporting processes that achieve tactical and strategic objectives to detect and prevent losses from fraudulent and high-risk transactions.
  • Support and enhance enterprise risk management policies and risk policies for all key risk categories, including regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement industry best practices across all risk management functions.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and compliance while ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 12 to 15+ years of progressive risk management experience with 5+ years in a senior leadership role
  • Distinguished track record of leading and developing comprehensive risk management functions
  • Experience at a respected financial institution with exposure to payments and technology platforms
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex risk concepts into actionable strategies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with proven success in cross-functional collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in finance, risk management, business administration, or related field preferred
  • Industry certifications related to risk management, fraud prevention, or financial services
  • Experience with machine learning, AI, and advanced analytics in risk management applications

Benefits:

Salary Range for California Residents Only:$194,280.00 to $272,000.00

Salary Range for Illinois Residents Only: $158,560.00 to $222,000.00

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Blackhawk Network offers benefits including 401k with employer match, medical, dental, vision, 12 paid holidays in the year 2025, 1 hour of sick pay accrual for every 30 hours worked, parental leave, life insurance, disability insurance, accident and illness insurance, health and dependent care flexible spending accounts, wellness benefits, and flexible time off for all full-time employees.
