Overview:

Blackhawk Network is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager of Platform Engineering to lead a team responsible for Observability, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Managed File Transfer (MFT). This role is essential to ensuring the reliability, performance, and visibility of our platform services. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, deep technical understanding of observability and reliability practices, and a passion for enabling engineering teams through education and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional global team of engineers specializing in MFT, Observability, and SRE
  • Define and drive the strategic roadmap for platform reliability, monitoring, and secure data transfer.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Observability & SRE Enablemen

  • Oversee the implementation and evolution of observability platforms including New Relic, Splunk, and Grafana
  • Guide the team in developing best practices for metrics, logging, and tracing, ensuring high system visibility and actionable insights.
  • Partner with engineering teams to educate and support them in adopting observability and reliability standards across the software lifecycle.

Managed File Transfer (MFT) Operations

  • Manage the secure and reliable operation of MFT services, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Collaborate with security and infrastructure teams to maintain robust and auditable file transfer processes.

Process Improvement & Technical Enablement

  • Champion internal onboarding and training initiatives to accelerate adoption of platform tools and practices.
  • Standardize escalation and incident response processes across platform services.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, site reliability, or infrastructure roles, with 2+ years in a people management capacity.
  • Proven experience managing observability platforms and SRE practices in a large-scale environment.
  • Strong understanding of Managed File Transfer (MFT) systems and secure data exchange protocols.
  • Experience working with AWS infrastructure and services.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in technical education, onboarding, or internal enablement programs.
  • Familiarity with incident management, monitoring strategy, and compliance frameworks.
  • Background in scripting or automation for platform operations.

Benefits:

Salary Range for California Residents Only:$133,920.00 to $180,800.00

Salary Range for Illinois Residents Only: $105,770.00 to $142,800.00

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Blackhawk Network offers benefits including 401k with employer match, medical, dental, vision, 12 paid holidays in the year 2025, 1 hour of sick pay accrual for every 30 hours worked, parental leave, life insurance, disability insurance, accident and illness insurance, health and dependent care flexible spending accounts, wellness benefits, and flexible time off for all full-time employees.
